Where are Royal Gorge Cabins?
Royal Gorge Cabins are located just outside the town of Cañon City, Colorado. Cañon City is about an hour drive southwest of Colorado Springs, which is also where you’ll find the nearest airport. The town of Cañon City is on the Arkansas River and is known for the nearby Royal Gorge, a scenic canyon with a gondola, a zip-line, and a few hikes.
Getting to Royal Gorge Cabins is easiest if you have your own car as there is no public transportation in the area. It also makes the perfect stop along a central Colorado road trip!
Glamping tents start at $219 USD/night. You can book your stay directly through their website.
Royal Gorge Cabins overview
Glamping tent
We opted to book a Double Queen Glamping Tent, which sleeps 4 people. The property also offers 2 person glamping tents, as well as single and double bedroom cabins. If you need space for more people, you can book larger vacation rentals on the Royal Gorge website.
The tent itself had plenty of space and was pretty cute. Each queen bed had luxury linens that were surprisingly comfortable (what with this being a form of camping and all!). The living room also had a few lounge chairs and an ottoman to kick back your feet.
Aesthetically, the tent was what I’d call “rustic chic.” There was a chandelier made of antlers, as well as natural wood and black iron accents.
On the far end of the room, there was a desk with a coffee maker and several other small amenities. Throughout the tent, you could find large windows, free wifi, and plenty of power outlets to charge your devices.
Campfire
Outside, our tent had a private deck with a fire ring and a picnic table. This cute campfire was the perfect place to roast some sausages and s’mores. We had an amazing time around the fire, especially when the sun went down and the stars came out.
Royal Gorge Cabins give you a small bundle of firewood to get you going. I’d recommend buying some more from a gas station or supermarket in Cañon City if you’re planning to keep the fire lit all night.
Facilities
Bathrooms and showers
There are no bathrooms inside the glamping tents — instead, there is a shared shower house just a few steps away from the property’s main office. Inside, there are toilets, showers, and a common area with a full kitchen and a dining room.
Despite being a shared space, the bathroom cabins were actually quite clean and comfortable. It definitely beats a long drop!
Outside space
Just outside the bathrooms, there is an open, grassy area with picnic tables, lawn games, and other outdoor activities. You also get some lovely views of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range in the background. This common space would be the perfect location to hang out for those with young children or a larger group!
Things to do in Cañon City
Royal Gorge Park
One of the most popular nearby attractions, Royal Gorge Bridge & Park is an amusement park built atop the canyon. It’s also home to one of the highest suspension bridges in the world! General admission tickets cost $30 and can be bought from the Royal Gorge Bridge website.
Royal Gorge Route Railroad
The Royal Gorge Route Railroad is a scenic train ride through the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The 2-hour ride goes inside the canyon and departs up to four times a day. You can buy your tickets through the Royal Gorge Route website.
Go whitewater rafting
There is no shortage of outdoor adventure if you go Royal Gorge rafting!
You can take either a half-day or a full-day tour. These whitewater rafting trips leave with an experienced guide and take you through some of the most hair-raising rapids within the gorge.
Final verdict on Royal Gorge Cabins
My parents and I had a wonderful stay at Royal Gorge Cabins — they were comfortable, private, and provided all the amenities you would expect from a nicer hotel. I loved the fact that all of the tent sites have their own private patio and campfire, which gives it a real “camping” feel.
While we didn’t have time to check out the restaurant or activities, I still really enjoyed my stay and would come back if I was ever in the Royal Gorge region again. Of all the lodging options in the area, Royal Gorge glamping tents and cabin rentals seem to be the nicest.
If you want to book a night at Royal Gorge Cabins, you can do so directly through their website.
