Wynwood is arguably the coolest and most interesting neighborhood in Miami. For several blocks in either direction, you’ll find alleyways and buildings covered in street art, murals, and graffiti of all types. Additionally, there are art galleries, cute boutiques, and so much more to explore apart from the Walls. Here are some highlights from my trip, including suggestions for the best things to eat, see, and do in Wynwood.

Wynwood Walls
Apart from being the name of the neighborhood itself, Wynwood also refers to the Wynwood Walls, an indoor and outdoor museum with rotating murals from local and international artists. The numerous galleries can be seen via self-guided tour or with an official tour guide.
The Walls were opened in 2009 by community revitalizer Tony Goldman. He had the idea to turn the neighborhood’s many empty warehouse buildings into a community art space in order to improve the area’s pedestrian potential. Goldman put his love for graffiti and street art on display and turned the neighborhood into the art and design capital it is today.
Since the pandemic, entry into Wynwood Walls is now ticketed. You can get general admission tickets online here for $10 (free for kids under 12). While the official Wynwood Wall galleries cost money, it’s always free to walk around the neighborhood itself.
Street art tours
Another fun way to get an in-depth look at Wynwood’s street art is by taking a guided tour. These tours will take you around alleys and abandoned buildings that you might have otherwise missed. They also are fantastic if you want a little bit more context about the artist behind the mural and their motivations for painting it.
Some highly-rated guided tours:
Alternatively, you can also follow a pre-made route through the neighborhood with a self-guided tour. These are a great option for those wanting a bit more freedom of movement (and they’re generally free or cheaper than a guided tour). The GPS My City app is a popular option.
Tips for visiting Wynwood
- Many of the popular murals can get pretty crowded later in the day. Try visiting as early as possible to avoid the crowds.
- Besides being hotter and more crowded, visiting during the middle of the day also puts weird shadows on the street art. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to capture good lighting on the walls.
- If you’re visiting Wynwood alone, consider getting a tripod to take pictures. This one from Amazon has a Bluetooth remote that makes it super easy to take lots of pictures in one go.
